Each modality may be applied separately or the ultrasound may be combined with either low voltage galvanic or high volt stimulation simultaneously through the ultrasound transducer. Combination therapy allows the practitioner to take advantage of the thermal effects of ultrasound in combination with the analgesic effect of stimulation.
The advantages of Phonophoresis with its ultrasonic micro-massage attributes can be applied in combination with Iontophoresis to achieve a faster and more effective dispensing of ionized medications.
